Holy Week is an event that is celebrated throughout the country but most notably in the colonial city of Antigua Guatemala. This event is part elaborate religious celebrations by marching in the streets.

These processions out of the churches and cathedrals in Antigua and around. The processions walk through the streets on carpets made by the locals. The carpets are made of materials such as sawdust, flowers, fruits, seeds, pine.

The most celebrated days are Thursday and Friday of Holy Week.

The giant kites of Santiago Sacatepéquez are celebrated on November 1 of each year. People celebrate the celebration of the dead by building giant kites. The kites have different shapes and on each one they make an artistic painting. This tradition began at the beginning of the 20th century.

Apart from the construction of giant kites, families are celebrating this date by praying their ancestors and leaving flowers on their graves.
